Hedge Cutting in Somerset & Devon
Let us tackle those overgrown hedges
Hedges are the thing people put off longest, and the thing that makes the biggest visual difference when it’s finally done.
What we do
- Reducing overgrown hedges back to a manageable size
- Regular trimming to keep shape and height
- Reshaping neglected or misshapen hedges
- Clearing and removing all clippings
When hedges should be cut
Timing matters, and not every gardener gets this right.
Nesting season runs roughly March to August. It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to damage or destroy an active bird’s nest. We check hedges before cutting during this period and will tell you honestly if a job should wait — even though it means we don’t get the work.
Most formal hedges do best trimmed in late summer, after nesting finishes.
Major reductions are usually best in winter, when the hedge is dormant.
We’ll advise on the right timing for your particular hedge rather than just doing whatever’s convenient.
A hedge is a wildlife corridor
A well kept hedge is one of the best things a garden can have for wildlife, shelter, nesting sites and food, all in a few feet.
